i-Ready Levels by Grade: Reading and Math Curriculum

i-Ready Level Grade Reading Curriculum Math Curriculum
Level AA Kindergarten Focuses on early literacy foundations: alphabet knowledge, letter sounds, phonological awareness, listening comprehension, print concepts, and beginning vocabulary. Students work on recognizing sounds, understanding simple stories, and building the first skills needed for reading. Focuses on foundational number sense: counting, number recognition, comparing quantities, simple addition ideas, shapes, patterns, measurement language, and early problem solving. This is the entry level for basic Kindergarten math readiness.
Level A 1st Grade Builds early reading skills through phonics, sight words, word recognition, sentence reading, basic grammar, and comprehension of simple texts. Students begin moving from sound-by-sound decoding toward smoother reading and understanding. Covers number sense, addition and subtraction within 20, place value foundations, comparing numbers, early word problems, measurement, and basic fractions as equal parts. Students learn to solve simple problems and explain their thinking.
Level B 2nd Grade Develops fluency, vocabulary, spelling patterns, grammar, and comprehension of short fiction and nonfiction texts. Students learn to identify main ideas, details, sequence, character actions, and basic text evidence. Covers addition and subtraction within 100, place value, measurement, money, time, early multiplication concepts, arrays, and multi-step word problems. Students begin using stronger strategies instead of relying only on counting.
Level C 3rd Grade Moves students into longer texts, vocabulary in context, character analysis, central message, informational text features, grammar, and inference. Level C is where reading shifts more strongly from learning to read toward reading to understand. Covers multiplication and division within 100, fractions, area, perimeter, place value, measurement, and multi-step word problems. Students start building the arithmetic and reasoning foundation needed for upper elementary math.
Level D 4th Grade Focuses on moderately complex texts, figurative language, vocabulary using context clues, theme, point of view, text structure, and evidence-based comprehension. Students are expected to explain answers using details from the text. Covers multi-digit multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, factors, multiples, geometry, measurement conversions, and multi-step problem solving. Level D is a major bridge from basic arithmetic into deeper conceptual math.
Level E 5th Grade Emphasizes text analysis, inference, comparing themes, interpreting meaning, academic vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension of more complex literary and informational texts. Students begin preparing for middle school reading expectations. Covers division of larger numbers, operations with fractions and decimals, volume, coordinate planes, numerical expressions, and multi-step real-world problems. Level E is the final elementary level before middle school math begins.
Level F 6th Grade Focuses on advanced comprehension, theme, summarizing, figurative language, argument analysis, poetry structure, text evidence, and deeper vocabulary. Students work with more complex fiction and nonfiction and are expected to explain how authors build meaning. Introduces middle school concepts such as ratios, rates, negative numbers, factors, multiples, fractions, decimals, basic algebraic expressions, coordinate planes, and introductory geometry. This is the first clear middle school math level.
Level G 7th Grade Covers complex text comparison, analyzing different genres, poetry elements, author’s purpose, argument structure, vocabulary, and grammar in more demanding passages. Students are expected to compare ideas across texts and support answers with evidence. Covers proportional relationships, percent problems, rational numbers, expressions, equations, probability, statistics, scale drawings, and early functions. Level G prepares students for the more formal algebra and geometry work of 8th grade.
Level H 8th Grade Focuses on evaluating arguments, analyzing complex informational texts, comparing claims and evidence, advanced vocabulary, text structure, point of view, and synthesis across sources. This is the highest standard K-8 reading level. Covers linear equations, systems of equations, functions, slope, transformations, geometry, the Pythagorean theorem, irrational numbers, and high-school-readiness problem solving. Level H is the highest standard K-8 math level.
Level 9 9th Grade / i-Ready Pro Level 9 is best understood as a high-school i-Ready Pro pathway level rather than part of the older AA-through-H K-8 letter sequence. In reading and literacy, it points to early high-school skills such as analyzing complex literary and informational texts, identifying claims and evidence, evaluating arguments, interpreting academic vocabulary, and using text structure to understand meaning. Students working at this level are moving beyond middle-school comprehension and into stronger high-school readiness. In Math, Level 9 connects most closely with Algebra I readiness and early high-school problem solving. Skills may include linear relationships, expressions, equations, functions, exponents, data analysis, geometry foundations, and applying math to multi-step real-world problems. In i-Ready Pro, older students may receive prioritized lessons, just-in-time support, and adaptive practice designed for Grades 6-12 rather than the younger K-8 lesson experience.
Level 10 10th Grade / i-Ready Pro Level 10 represents a more advanced high-school literacy pathway in the i-Ready Pro environment. Reading work at this stage may involve deeper literary analysis, author’s craft, rhetorical structure, comparing arguments, evaluating source reliability, interpreting figurative and academic language, and synthesizing information across texts. It should be treated as a Grades 6-12 i-Ready Pro interpretation level, not a traditional AA-H letter level. In Math, Level 10 generally reflects deeper high-school mathematics such as algebraic reasoning, functions, systems of equations, quadratic relationships, coordinate geometry, proportional modeling, and data interpretation. i-Ready Pro is designed for older learners and includes streamlined, age-appropriate lessons that focus on critical mathematics concepts, including both foundational support and grade-level instruction.
Level 11 11th Grade / i-Ready Pro Level 11 should be described as an upper high-school i-Ready Pro literacy pathway. Reading expectations may include evaluating complex arguments, comparing multiple perspectives, analyzing dense nonfiction, understanding advanced vocabulary, recognizing rhetorical choices, and preparing for college- and career-readiness reading demands. It is not part of the older AA-H K-8 level ladder, but it fits the broader Grades 6-12 i-Ready Pro structure. In Math, Level 11 may involve advanced algebra, functions, modeling, geometry applications, statistics, probability, and multi-step quantitative reasoning. For students who need support, i-Ready Pro may also provide essential lessons that address unfinished learning while still keeping the experience age-appropriate for secondary students. This makes Level 11 best understood as an upper high-school readiness pathway rather than a standard K-8 lesson level.
Level 12 12th Grade / i-Ready Pro Level 12 is best understood as the highest high-school i-Ready Pro pathway interpretation. In reading and literacy, it points to senior-level comprehension skills such as advanced argument analysis, research literacy, source evaluation, synthesis across complex texts, academic vocabulary, and independent reading of challenging fiction and nonfiction. It should not be confused with the traditional K-8 i-Ready letter levels, which usually run from Level AA through Level H. In Math, Level 12 may reflect college-readiness math skills such as advanced algebraic modeling, functions, statistics, probability, geometry applications, quantitative reasoning, and complex problem solving. In i-Ready Pro, the focus is not simply assigning a higher letter level; it is giving older students adaptive, streamlined lessons that target critical skills, close gaps, and support grade-level or beyond-grade-level progress in Grades 6-12.
Level Z Advanced Reading Search Term / Not a Standard i-Ready Level Level Z in i-Ready is best understood as an advanced reading-level search term, not a standard i-Ready instructional level like Level AA through Level H. In many reading systems outside i-Ready, especially A-Z guided reading systems, Level Z represents very advanced text complexity, often around upper middle school, 7th to 8th grade, and sometimes early high school readiness. When parents or students search “What is Level Z in iReady?”, they usually mean a student is reading beyond the normal Level H / 8th-grade i-Ready pathway or they are confusing i-Ready with another A-Z reading-level system. A safe interpretation is that “Level Z” signals advanced analytical reading, strong vocabulary, complex comprehension, and the ability to evaluate challenging fiction and nonfiction texts, but it should not be treated as an official i-Ready lesson level unless the school’s own report specifically uses that label. Level Z is not an official i-Ready Math level. A student who scores above Level H is usually interpreted as working beyond the standard K-8 pathway, but that does not mean i-Ready assigns a normal “Level Z” math curriculum. In math, students beyond Level H may be supported through i-Ready Pro, advanced placement, enrichment, teacher-assigned lessons, or separate high-school materials depending on the school or district.

Note: The traditional i-Ready instructional level sequence is commonly shown as Level AA through Level H, corresponding roughly to Kindergarten through 8th grade. Starting in 2026-2027, i-Ready Diagnostic becomes i-Ready Inform for Reading and Mathematics in Grades K-12, while i-Ready Pro provides an enhanced Grades 6-12 experience for older students using i-Ready Assessment and Personalized Instruction. For that reason, Levels 9-12 are best described as i-Ready Pro / high-school pathway interpretations rather than part of the older AA-through-H K-8 letter sequence. Level Z should be treated separately because it is more commonly associated with A-Z guided reading systems than the standard i-Ready level sequence.

Understanding the iReady Level System

The iReady level system uses letters to classify instructional content within the i-Ready learning platform. Level AA is Kindergarten. Level H is 8th grade. This lettering system applies to i-Ready lessons and instructional pathways — it is separate from, though related to, the diagnostic scale score students receive. When the diagnostic assesses a student, the resulting scale score determines which lesson level that student is assigned. A 5th grader whose diagnostic places them in the Level D range will receive Level D lessons regardless of their enrolled grade. This is intentional — the adaptive system matches each student to their demonstrated skill level, not their enrollment year. Both Reading and Math use the same letter levels, but a student can be at different levels in each subject.

For 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, the i-Ready Diagnostic is transitioning to the name iReady Inform following Curriculum Associates’ November 2025 announcement. The level structure, scale scores, and national norms remain consistent across this rebrand.

Solve: y = 2x + 1 and y = −x + 7. A) (1,3)   B) (2,5)   C) (3,4)   D) (2,3). Answer: B) (2,5). Set 2x+1 = −x+7: 3x=6, x=2. Then y = 2(2)+1 = 5. Solving systems algebraically is a core Level H topic.

Level H Math — Dilations and Similarity Quiz Level H:

A triangle has a vertex at (2,4). It is dilated by scale factor 1.5 centered at the origin. What are the new coordinates? A) (3,6)   B) (2.5,4.5)   C) (4,8)   D) (3,4). Answer: A) (3,6). Multiply each coordinate by scale factor: 2×1.5=3, 4×1.5=6. Dilations are central Level H geometry content.

Level H Reading — Analyzing Arguments Across Texts:

“Author 1 relies on emotional appeals about endangered species. Author 2 builds a case using economic data on long-term costs of inaction.” What are students being asked to analyze? A) Which author is correct. B) How the two authors differ in types of evidence and rhetorical strategies. C) Whether environmental protection is necessary. D) The format of each essay. Answer: B. Comparing authors’ rhetorical choices and evidence types across texts is a defining Level H reading skill.

What Is Level Z in iReady? Does Level Z Exist?

Level Z in iReady is not an official level. The i-Ready level classification system runs from Level AA (Kindergarten) through Level H (8th grade) in its core documented structure. Level Z iReady as a formal category does not exist in official Curriculum Associates documentation. The confusion comes from other reading level systems — particularly Fountas and Pinnell’s guided reading levels, which extend to Z and beyond. Students familiar with those systems sometimes search for a Level Z equivalent in i-Ready. There is none. The highest documented level is Level H. Some unofficial forums and student wikis use “Level Z” informally to mean “very advanced,” but this has no basis in official i-Ready materials.

What Is the Highest Level in iReady Diagnostic?

The highest level in i-Ready’s core K-8 program is Level H, corresponding to 8th grade. On the diagnostic scale, scores can theoretically reach above 700 in Reading and above 570 in Math for exceptionally high-performing students, but in terms of the lesson classification system Level H is the ceiling for standard K-8 use. Some mathematics programs reference Level I (9th grade) and Level J (10th grade) for advanced high school content, but these are not part of the official core program documentation. Can you get a 1000 on iReady? No — the scale runs to approximately 800, not 1000. Scores above 700 in Reading are already at or above the 99th percentile for 8th grade.

General Questions About iReady

What is iReady?

+

iReady is an adaptive online assessment and instruction platform created by Curriculum Associates, used by K-8 schools across the United States to measure and support student learning in Reading and Math. The diagnostic component – now being rebranded as iReady Inform for 2026-2027 — adjusts question difficulty in real time based on each student’s responses, pinpointing exactly where a student is performing relative to grade-level expectations.

The instructional component delivers personalized lessons aligned to each student’s diagnostic placement level, from Level AA (Kindergarten) through Level H (8th grade). Schools typically administer the diagnostic three times per year: Fall, Winter, and Spring.

How many levels are in iReady?

+

There are 9 official instructional levels in the standard K-8 iReady program: Level AA, Level A, Level B, Level C, Level D, Level E, Level F, Level G, and Level H. Each level corresponds to one grade from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Below Level AA there is an “Emerging K” band for students who are not yet at Kindergarten level, though students in Grade 2 or higher cannot be placed there. Some discussions reference a Level Z but this is not an official part of the documented K-8 program – more on that in the Level Z question below.

What is the highest level in iReady?

+

The highest level in the standard iReady K-8 program is Level H, which corresponds to 8th grade. Level H is the most advanced level in the core program and contains 51 Reading lessons and 31 Math lessons according to the i-Ready Wiki.

Some advanced math contexts reference Levels I and J for high school content, but these are not part of the official documented K-8 program. The iReady diagnostic scale score runs to approximately 800 – not 1000 – and scores above 700 in Reading are already at or above the 99th percentile for 8th grade.

What is the highest iReady diagnostic score possible?

+

The iReady diagnostic scale runs from approximately 100 to 800. There is no official published maximum ceiling, but in practical K-8 testing, scores above 700 in Reading are essentially at or above the 99th percentile for 8th grade and are extremely rare.

Can you get a 1000 on iReady? No. The scale does not reach 1000. Any reference to a score of 1000 on iReady comes from an unofficial source or a misread report. The 99th percentile for 8th grade fall Reading is approximately 696 based on 2025-2026 national norms.

Is Level D in iReady 4th grade?

+

Yes. Level D in iReady is 4th grade. Every letter in the system maps to one grade: Level AA is Kindergarten, Level A is Grade 1, Level B is Grade 2, Level C is Grade 3, Level D is Grade 4, Level E is Grade 5, Level F is Grade 6, Level G is Grade 7, and Level H is Grade 8.

A 4th grader placed at Level D is performing at grade level. A student in a higher grade placed at Level D has 4th grade skill gaps to address through targeted instruction. Level D content covers multi-digit operations, fractions, decimal introduction, and moderately complex text analysis.

What grade level is a 700 on iReady?

+

A score of 700 on iReady Reading is at or above the 99th percentile for every K-8 grade, representing exceptional performance well above the standard 8th grade Level H benchmark. The 99th percentile for 8th grade fall Reading is approximately 696 based on 2025-2026 national norms, so a score of 700 is above that ceiling.

For Math, a 700 is similarly extraordinary – far above the expected range for any K-8 grade and essentially beyond the standard Level H content. Students scoring at this level are performing at or above high school level. See our full iReady Reading score chart for all percentile comparisons.

What math level should a 7-year-old be at on iReady?

+

A 7-year-old is typically in 1st or 2nd grade. At 1st grade, the expected iReady Math level is Level A with a 50th percentile fall score of approximately 376. At 2nd grade, the expected level is Level B with a 50th percentile fall score of approximately 402.

A 7-year-old at Level B or above is performing at or above grade-level expectations. Key skills at Level A include addition and subtraction within 20, basic place value to 99, and simple word problems. Level B adds multiplication as repeated addition and operations within 100.

What happens if you fail i-Ready?

+

You cannot fail iReady. The diagnostic has no pass or fail score – every student receives a level placement that identifies their current skill level and guides the lessons they are assigned next. A low score simply means the adaptive test found the student’s current performance level, which the program uses to assign targeted instruction.

In most schools iReady scores do not directly affect grades. They are used for instructional planning, intervention identification, and tracking growth across the three annual testing windows. Students placed below grade level receive lessons designed to close specific skill gaps over time.

What is a good iReady score for a 4th grader?

+

A good iReady score for a 4th grader meets or exceeds the 4th grade benchmark. In fall testing the 50th national percentile for 4th grade is 533 in Reading and 452 in Math – scores at or above these figures indicate average to above-average performance nationally. Scores above the 75th percentile (Reading approximately 564, Math approximately 470) represent strong above-average performance for a 4th grader.

A 4th grader placed at Level E or above by the diagnostic is performing above grade level, which may suggest suitability for enrichment or advanced work. See the full 4th grade percentile breakdown on our iReady Math score chart.

What is a good iReady score for a 5th grader?

+

A good iReady score for a 5th grader meets or exceeds the 5th grade benchmark. In fall testing the 50th national percentile for 5th grade is 558 in Reading and 470 in Math. Scores at or above these figures mean the student is performing at or above the national average for 5th grade. Scores above the 75th percentile (Reading approximately 588, Math approximately 487) represent strong above-average 5th grade performance.

A 5th grader placed at Level F or above by the diagnostic is performing above grade level in that subject. Level E is the expected placement for an on-grade 5th grader. For the complete 5th grade score breakdown see our iReady Reading Scores chart.

What is a good iReady score for a 6th grader?

+

A good iReady score for a 6th grader meets or exceeds the 6th grade benchmark. In fall testing the 50th national percentile for 6th grade is 573 in Reading and 483 in Math. Scores at or above these figures indicate average to above-average 6th grade performance nationally. Scores above 607 in Reading and 501 in Math (approximately 75th percentile) represent strong above-average performance.

A 6th grader placed at Level G or H by the diagnostic is performing above grade level and may be a candidate for accelerated programming. Level F is the expected on-grade placement for 6th grade. Full score comparisons are available on our i-Ready Score Chart for 2026 page.

Can you delete a diagnostic on iReady?

+

Students cannot delete their own iReady diagnostic scores. Results are stored in the school’s administrator account and can only be managed by an authorized teacher or administrator. A teacher can remove or reset a diagnostic but this requires deliberate staff action at the school level.

If a diagnostic seems inaccurate because a student was unwell, rushed, or distracted, speak with the classroom teacher. A re-test can be requested, or context noted. The three annual diagnostic windows mean a new data point is never far away.

What is Level Z in iReady?

+

Level Z is not an official level in the Curriculum Associates iReady program. The standard level classification runs from Level AA (Kindergarten) through Level H (8th grade). According to analysis of the i-Ready system, Level Z appears to function as an internal “catch-all” label for supplemental or advanced lessons that fall outside the conventional A-H levels – but it is not a progression level that students work through.

Confusion also comes from other reading level systems like Fountas and Pinnell’s guided reading levels, which extend to Z and beyond – these are unrelated to i-Ready. The highest level a student will work through in standard K-8 iReady is Level H. If someone tells you they “reached Level Z in iReady,” that is not an official designation.

Does iReady have levels for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade?

+

iReady is primarily designed for K-8 education. The core documented program runs from Level AA (Kindergarten) through Level H (8th grade). Some references exist to Levels I and J for 9th and 10th grade mathematics in certain advanced configurations, but these are not part of the standard K-8 program and are not widely implemented. There are no official Level K or higher for 11th or 12th grade.

For high school students, Curriculum Associates offers separate products. The standard iReady diagnostic and lesson system that most school districts use stops at Level H (8th grade content). Students who reach Level H before 8th grade have completed the ceiling of the standard K-8 iReady lesson pathway.

Can a student be placed above or below their grade level in iReady?

+

Yes. iReady is specifically designed to place students at their actual performance level regardless of enrolled grade. A 5th grader performing at 3rd grade level will be placed at Level C. A 5th grader performing at 7th grade level will be placed at Level G. The diagnostic can place students up to three grade levels above their enrolled grade.

Students in Grade 2 or higher cannot be placed in the Emerging K band below Level AA, per the official Level Classification wiki. Being placed below grade level is not a punishment – it is the diagnostic identifying exactly where to focus instruction for maximum growth. See our guide on what to do after your child’s i-Ready report.

What should I do if my child is below grade level in iReady?

+

If your child is placed below grade level in iReady, the first step is to speak with their teacher to understand which specific domains are weakest – for example, whether it is fractions or word problems in Math, or inference vs vocabulary in Reading. A general “below level” result is far less useful than knowing exactly which skills need work.

At home, focus targeted daily practice on those specific domains rather than general review. Consistent 15-20 minute daily practice sessions are more effective than occasional longer sessions. Track growth at the next diagnostic window. For a full action plan see our guide: What to Do After Your Child’s i-Ready Diagnostic Score Report.

Why did my child’s iReady score go down?

+

A drop in iReady score from one testing window to the next is more common than parents expect and does not always mean regression. The most frequent cause is comparing Fall scores to Spring scores without accounting for seasonal norms – the same scale score means different percentiles in different seasons because national expectations rise through the year.

Other common causes include summer learning loss causing a Fall dip from the previous Spring, a student rushing through the diagnostic, testing anxiety, or a genuine skill gap that was always there but not previously detected. A single score drop is rarely cause for alarm – look at the trend across multiple testing windows and compare to the correct season’s norms.

Does iReady affect school grades?

+

In most schools the iReady diagnostic score does not directly affect academic grades. It is used as a formative assessment tool for instructional planning, not as a graded assignment. However, some teachers grade participation in iReady lessons or the completion of assigned lesson minutes as part of classwork grades – this varies by school and district policy.

iReady scores may indirectly affect a student by influencing class placement decisions, intervention group assignments, or gifted program referrals at schools that use diagnostic data for those purposes. Always check with your school about how iReady data is used in your specific district.

How long does iReady take?

+

The iReady diagnostic typically takes 45 to 60 minutes per subject for most students, though it is untimed so some students take longer. Younger students in Kindergarten and 1st grade may take less time. Most schools recommend no more than 45-60 minutes per subject in a single sitting to avoid fatigue affecting accuracy.

For the lesson/instructional component, Curriculum Associates recommends approximately 45-60 minutes per week per subject. Schools typically complete most lesson time during school hours, with some assigning additional minutes at home.

My child is in 5th grade and got placed at Level C. Is that bad?

+

A 5th grader placed at Level C means the diagnostic found 3rd grade skill gaps – the student is two levels below the expected Level E placement for 5th grade. This is not a disaster but it is a signal that targeted intervention is needed. Level C is 3rd grade content, so the student likely has gaps in multiplication, division, fraction concepts in Math, and reading comprehension that goes beyond basic decoding in Reading.

Talk to the teacher immediately about which specific domains are weakest and whether any school-based intervention or extra support is available. With consistent targeted practice addressing those specific gaps, students can make meaningful progress. Two levels below is more significant than one and usually warrants a direct conversation with the teacher about a support plan.

My child finished all their iReady lessons. What happens now?

+

If a student completes all assigned iReady lessons in their My Path, they will not receive new lessons until the next diagnostic reassesses their level – unless a teacher assigns additional lessons manually. This is an intended feature of the program, not a bug. High-achieving students who work efficiently through their lessons sometimes reach this point.

The next diagnostic window will reassess the student’s level and likely assign new lessons at a higher placement if growth has occurred. Teachers can also assign specific lessons outside the student’s My Path at any time. If your child has finished all lessons mid-year, inform their teacher so additional content can be assigned.

Are iReady scores used for placement decisions like honors or gifted programs?

+

Whether iReady scores are used for placement decisions depends entirely on each school and district. Some districts use iReady diagnostic data as one factor in determining placement for intervention groups, honors tracks, or gifted program referrals. Others use it purely for instructional guidance with no bearing on formal placements.

Check with your school or district directly to understand how iReady data is used in your area. If your child is consistently placed one or more levels above grade level on iReady, it is worth asking the school whether that data is considered as part of any academic acceleration process.

Can iReady scores be inaccurate?

+

iReady scores can be less accurate when a student rushes through the diagnostic, clicks randomly, is unwell or anxious during testing, or does not take the assessment seriously. The adaptive system requires genuine engagement to return an accurate placement. A single diagnostic is also just one data point – patterns across Fall, Winter, and Spring are more reliable than any individual result.

If a placement seems clearly inconsistent with a student’s classroom performance, speak with the teacher. In many cases a re-test can be arranged, or the teacher can simply note the contextual factors that may have affected the result and wait for the next scheduled diagnostic window for a cleaner data point.

What is the difference between an iReady scale score and a percentile?

+

The iReady scale score is a number (approximately 100-800) that measures a student’s absolute performance on a continuous scale. It is useful for tracking growth over time because the same scale is used across all grades – a score of 502 in 3rd grade and a score of 502 in 5th grade represent the same performance point on the scale, allowing true year-over-year comparison.

The percentile rank compares the student’s scale score to a national sample of students in the same grade who tested in the same season. A 70th percentile means the student outperformed 70% of same-grade national peers. Scale score tracks growth; percentile tracks national standing. Both matter and should be read together. Full percentile tables are at our iReady Reading Scores chart and iReady Math Scores chart.

What is iReady Inform and how is it different from iReady Diagnostic?

+

iReady Inform is the new name for the iReady Diagnostic assessment starting with the 2026-2027 school year. Curriculum Associates announced this rebrand on November 4, 2025. The name change reflects that the assessment is used to inform ongoing instruction, not just diagnose gaps – hence “Inform” rather than “Diagnostic.”

The level system (AA through H), scale scores, and national norms all remain consistent across the transition. A student’s Level E placement and a score of 558 in Reading remain the same 5th grade 50th percentile benchmark in 2026-2027 as in 2025-2026. Nothing breaks, no scores change meaning – only the name on the report changes.

How do I calculate the iReady score my child needs to reach the next level?

+

To estimate the score needed to reach the next level, find the 50th percentile score for the next grade up using the correct season norms. For example, a 4th grader at Level D who wants to reach Level E territory needs a Reading score approaching 558 (the 5th grade Fall 50th percentile). Reaching the lower band of the next level (approximately 533 for Level E) already shows meaningful movement toward that level.

An iReady scores calculator to help estimate target scores for your child’s grade and level goal is coming soon at readyscores.com/iready-scores-calculator. In the meantime use the full percentile tables on our i-Ready Score Chart for 2026 page.
